IMPACT OF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT ON WORKERS PERFROMANCE (A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIA AGRICULTURAL AND CO-OPERATIVE BANK LTD AWKA ANAMBRA STATE).
Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to examine the impact of training and development on workers performance in Nigeria Agriculture and co-operative Bank limited Awka. The population size of the study was two hundred (200) while, the sample size was one hundred and thirty three (133). The sample size was drafted using yaro Yamani formular. The sources of instrument used for data collection in this research work were the primary source and secondary source. The primary source includes; Oral interview and questionnaires while, the secondary source includes; text books, magazines, journals etc. Research design adopted in this work was survey research design. The method of data analysis used was simple average and percentage technique. Findings: the staff of Nigeria Agricultural and co-operative Bank. Awka are poorly trained and developed. Also, training as an organizational effort aimed at helping an employee to acquire basic skills required for the efficient execution of the function for which he was hired. Equally, an efficient training and development programmes result to worker’s greater performance. Finally, a well trained employee (worker) enjoys adult characteristic independence, has deeper and more consistent interest in what he does as a result of procession of requisite skills. Conclusion: training and development are general and current trend establishment as a result of it’s impact on workers performance. It is a veritable tool that could be used in both public sector and private sector. Recommendations: management should strive from time to time to identify the training needs of workers and attend to them so as to keep workers abreast of technological innovations and update their skills for better performance. More funds should be adopted for implementing performance based on training and development programmes. Finally, adoption of satisfying working condition and provision of opportunity for growth, advancement and self actualization should be made.
