Budgetary Control As A Tool For Effective Management In Tertiary Institution (A Case Study Of Enugu State University Of Science And Technology (Esut)
The research was on budgetary control as a tool for effective management in tertiary institutions. (A study of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). The aim of this research is to find out whether budgetary control has a significant effect on revenue generation and expenditure of tertiary institutions, and also to find out whether budgetary control has improved the efficiency and effectiveness of tertiary institutions. Data for this resreach work were gotten by the way of administering questionnaires, published textbook, and journals presentation and analysis of data were carried out using the simple percentage method and the formulated hypothesis were tested using analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical technique. The resreach shows the following findings: that budgetary control system has a significant effect on the revenue generation and expenditure of tertiary institutions, that budgetary control system has improved the management efficiency and effectiveness of tertiary institutions. The researcher recommended that their should be education and should based on management by objective (MBO), their should be rewards and incentive to budge workers for favourable budget variance and the management should also encourage team work among themselves by stressing group reward above individual reward for all heads of departments at a reasonable large of attainment of the institutions objectives. The purpose of the study is to determine the effect of budgeting on the economic development of the state to determine the factors which account for the difference between the capital expenditure and the recurrent expenditure and to take an overview of the analysis of the relationship between estimated and actual expenditure in the last five financial years. ANALYTICAL STUDY OF PROFIT PLANNING AND BUDGETING (A CASE STUDY OF UNILEVER NIGERIA PLC.)
This study is focused on the analytical study of profit planning and budgeting in an organization. The research was centered on Unilever Nigeria Plc. The research work is divided into five chapters. The purpose of the study is to know what it takes to plan for profit and the importance of profit planning and budgeting to an organization. The review of related literature was used to expose what authors, writers, individuals and cooperate bodies have said about the topic under study. In the course of the study the researcher uses both primary and secondary sources of data. The primary sources of data were through interviews, observations and questionnaires distributed among the various departments containing fifteen (15) questions and the secondary sources of data, were drawn from text books and journals. The data collected was analyzed, tabulated and presented using simple percentages. A sample size of (80) questionnaire were drawn, out of which (70) were returned. The researcher concluded by giving suggestions and recommends that for a profit planning to function well in an organization; every body in the organization must be educated on the importance of profit planning there by participating fully from the beginning of the plan to the implementation of the plan.
This first chapter introduces readers to the importance of profit planning and budgeting in an organization including the meaning of the subject matter clearly defined, how they act as an aid to an organization and also stating the purpose of the study. PROBLEM AND PROSPECT OF PUBLIC SECTOR FINANCING SCHEME (A CASE STUDY OF MINISTRY OF ESTABLISHMENT PENSION SECTION MAIN SECRETARIAT AWKA.
Public sector pension financing scheme is made to provide financial support beyond retirement age or death or appropriate circumstance voluntary withdrawal from service. The objective provides some measure of security and guarantee to the public sector workers in the country. However, there are some problems that militate against the smooth running of the scheme. These problems have been compounded by the inability of the workers to save out of their take home pay because of hyper inflation, economic recession and high cost of living. Both the federal and state government has not been carried on how these people (pensioners) are coping with this issue. Again this research work tries to examine the financial operation of pension scheme which based on the assumption that the funds will accumulate to an extent sufficient to make possible the payment of the promised benefits. Therefore if and only if those responsible for the disbursement and management of these funds have the necessary skills, positively in the desired sectors of the economy and for the success of this pension reform depend on the full participation and co-operation of all stake holders especially the workers. It is also believed that a sound and effective pension fund administration will double a good standard of living for retiring workers and also ensure some level of economic development. Six research questions guided this study. Also three hypothesis were tested and it was found that public sector pension financing scheme could attract skilled workers to the public sector organization frequency tables, percentage mean and standard deviation were used in representation and analysis of the responses to test the hypothesis. And finally investment of public sector pension fund on viable productive activities were found to contribute to the development of the country’s economy. Also it was recommended that government should ensure that personal data of all employees are collected and kept to guard against the problem of incomplete record of service.
The problem and prospects of public sector pension financing scheme have been agitating the minds of most workers of the country in particularly in public sector of the economy. In view of this pension fund is quite neglecting for the reason the researcher have taken up topic with a view of finding out the problems of financing pension scheme and the possible prospect in pension scheme. The provision and administration of retired benefits through pension plans and gratuity plans. These plans may be called “long term or end of service benefits”.
